Prayer Shawl Ministry

PRAYER SHAWL GROUP

The group is open to anyone who would be available to make shawls. No experience is necessary! We can teach people how to crochet or knit. Everyone in the current group started out as a “beginner.”

Once they are comfortable with making a shawl, they would need to be prepared to make one shawl after another, depending on the amount of requests coming in.  (Since I started, before Christmas, I have been making shawls constantly)  The shawls need to be made in a timely fashion so they are finished one to two weeks after receiving a request.

This is a true commitment of time and love as well as money. To date, we have only received very limited donations and we have been purchasing our own yarn and fleece for the blankets.  An average shawl costs between $16-$18 (we use a certain yarn that makes very pretty, soft shawls and is $4.47 per skein at the cheapest) and an average blanket can cost anywhere from $23-$36 (baby blankets are around $20).

ANY monetary support would be very, very welcome!   So if you don’t have the time or the inclination to actually make a shawl, please consider supporting us financially.

The important thing is that we get our shawls out there to those in need   Our shawls are not only meant for people in our congregation but any friend, relative, coworker, neighbor—anyone who is in need of the comfort that a prayer shawl provides; this includes those with serious illness, surgeries/injuries, pregnancies/births, deaths, divorce, serious financial difficulties, graduations, marriages or engagements---important events in which people can benefit from a shawl and not only sad things, as you can see.

The Prayer Shawl Group meets the first Saturday of every month at 9:30 AM at the Lake Campus (12475 273rd Ave. NW, Zimmerman, MN 55398. LakeCampus is located right on Highway 169 just south of County Road 9)
